Magnetism is the study of behaviour of magnets.A magnet attracts the steels or iron pins kept at a close range with a certain amount of force. This force id stronger than the force of gravity.Magnetic force can be felt by putting two magnets together.in one position when the opposite poles face each other they cling together and needs a good amount of force to drive them away from each other.Whereas when the like poles face each other they repel away from each other.
Separation of mixture
A magnet can separate iron filings from a mixture of iron and other non-metallic substances. When a magnet picks up a pin,the pin behaves as a temporary magnet and picks up more pins. The molecules in the un-magnetized pin points in different directions until they are lined up by the magnet.
Electromagnets
When an electric current is passed through a wire, a magnetic field around the wire is produced.this magnetic field becomes stronger when the wire is coiled around the piece of iron.such type of 'electric magnet' is called electromagnet.
