ageratum,an amazing flower

the amazing ageratum is an exotic invasive plant.it is found in almost every country on road sides,cropland and orchards as a weed and even in gardens..ageratum conyzoides linn is an aromatic annual and polymorphic herb.its flowers are beautiful.ageratum grows to one metre height.it has various common names at different places in India and abroad like billy goat weed(English), mentrastro(Brazil), kalijiri,nilphulia (uttarpradesh), Fulania(uttarakhand), ajagandha,gandhari(Gujarat), dochunty,uchunti(west Bengal), kattappa(kerela), osari, neelam khajju(madhya pradesh),etc. the genus consists of approximately thirty species but in India only two species are found.ageratum is native to tropical america but has cosmopolitan distribution especially in tropical and sub-tropical countries.the plant is generally a shade-lover and can be seen everywhere, even on high altitudes.the plant can easily germinate through seeds in the open and on any type of garden soil.
