given the common name "lizard" by both the ancient Greeks and the exploring Spaniards, the crocodile and alligator show great similarity.the crocodiles may be found almost anywhere around the world within the broad belt of the tropical zones.crocodiles can live only in a very warm climate;alligators can survive ina slightly colder climate.
Physical differences:
The alligator is very dark in colour and has a heavy body;the crocodile is lithe and light-hued. the crocodile prefers salt or blackish water; the alligators prefers fresh streams.the female alligators an elaborate nest of mud and wet grass for her egg, while the mother crocodile simply deposits her in a hole along the water's edge.the greatest differences between the cousins are in their heads and mouths.the crocodile has a long, narrow head tapering to a point, while the alligators head's is broad, almost rectangular in shape.it has also a tongue, which the crocodiles does not.
